The flowers are a massive 7 inches in diameter, attracting birds and butterflies. Sunsation Magnolia grows to a height of 18-20 feet and spreads 15-18 feet wide.
The Sunsation Magnolia is easy to grow and maintain. The branches of this tree are low to the ground. Sunsation Magnolia has a classic, upright, pyramidal growth habit with fragrant, upward-facing flowers.
Sunsation Magnolia Care
Sunsation Magnolia grows well in full sun to part shade. Ensure that this tree gets a minimum of 4 to 6 hours of sunlight daily for best results. Keep the soil consistently moist surrounding the magnolia. Sunsation Magnolia prefers a slightly acidic and nutrient-rich soil, although it is adaptable to sandy soils. Plant in the early spring for cooler climates and late fall for warmer climates. Mulch around the base of the tree with compost or arborist chips, but keep it from touching the trunk.
Sunsation Magnolia pruning should be done during midsummer. Remove dead or broken branches first, then prune to your desired shape.
Sunsation Magnolia Spacing
Sunsation Magnolia should be given plenty of room to grow. Plant this magnolia about 15 feet away from other trees.

?
"Blooms on" tells you which stems produce flowers, which decides when it's safe to prune.
- New Wood: Flowers form on stems that grow this season. Prune in late winter or early spring without losing blooms.
- Old Wood: Flower buds form on last year's stems. Prune right after flowering. Pruning in fall or early spring removes next year's blooms.
- Both New and Old Wood: Blooms on last year's stems and again on new growth, so it flowers even after a hard winter or a mistimed pruning. Prune lightly after the first flush of blooms.
