- Growing Zones
If you are looking for a prolific, ever-blooming, dense groundcover with stunning deep blue to purple flower clusters, look no further than Verbena Superbena Dark Blue. This herbaceous annual is said to be superior in every way. Blooming spring through the first frost, this plant is especially stunning in the fall. Growing 6 – 12 inches in height and trailing up to 30 inches this verbena covers a lot of ground.
With vigorous growth rate and an amazing mounding, trailing habit, Verbena Superbena Dark Blue is a workhorse in the garden. It is heat tolerant, deer resistant, ever blooming, with no deadheading necessary. Attracts butterflies, bees and many other beneficial pollinators. Use as a border plant, groundcover and in mass plantings in the landscape. In a mixed planting container, it can be used as a spiller but does not perform well in small containers. Also grows well in hanging baskets and window boxes and in all sorts of other combinations.
Superbena Dark Blue Verbena Care
Verbena Superbena Dark Blue is an easy care, low maintenance annual. It requires full to partial sun for the best blooms and performance and grows in USDA hardiness zones 8 – 11. It has an average water use and tolerates most any soil type. Superbena Dark Blue benefits from a slow release fertilizer in landscape beds and regular water-soluble liquid fertilizer applications in container planting. Tired looking plants can be rejuvenated with an overall trim with pruning shears back to 1/3 of the plant size.
Verbena Superbena Dark Blue can be grown as a perennial in mild winter climates that do not get hard freezes. They will not do well indoors but will perform well in containers on high light patios and porches. Flowers will last the entire growing season.
Superbena Dark Blue Verbena Spacing
Superbena Dark Blue is a low growing groundcover that only reaches 6 - 12 Inches in height but trails up to 30 inches. Spacing should be 15 - 20 inches in landscape beds. In a container space, 10 – 15 inches apart.
