Pinwheels, circus tents, peppermint sticks – Royale Cherryburst has the fun, flavor, and star power of these and more. Clusters of rose-pink stars striped white will stop both humans and butterflies in their tracks to enjoy the show. With medium-green toothed foliage, these flower machines continuously bloom through the fall, shrug off heat and drought and do not need deadheading. As an extra, deer also avoid this family of plants, if you share your garden space with them.
These verbena hybrids only get about a foot tall at most, have a mounded trailing habit that can extend to two feet long. In containers, whether hanging baskets, patio planters, or raised beds, they can be used as spillers or fillers. In the landscape, they make cheerful star-spangled edging. Known for being vigorous and mildew-resistant, verbenas in the Superbena series thrive in sun or partial sun.
Superbena Royale® Cherryburst Verbena Care
Royale Cherryburst can handle many locations, even dry soil and low fertility. In the landscape, a slow-release fertilizer or compost should be added while planting. In containers, add to that repeat applications of water-soluble fertilizer for best bloom.
No deadheading is needed for performance, but if you feel the need to give the plant a trim, that can be done at any time, even at planting if you want to help the plant grow fuller. This will encourage lateral branching and bushy growth.
Superbena Royale® Cherryburst Verbena Spacing
In containers it is best to allow about eight to 12 inches between plants for optimal growth. Because Royale Cherryburst can spread to approximately 24 inches, consider spacing plants 18-24 inches apart in the landscape.
