So Pretty. In. Pink. A frothy confection of pink, white and raspberry, these flowers are a bouquet to themselves. Outer rings of white/palest pink give way to a vivid ring of hot pink, which opens to reveal dark green textured foliage. As the flowers progress, the colors may change, making an ever-fascinating display. Sparkling Rosé, in the Superbena Series, is commended for being mildew-resistant, as well as heat- and drought-tolerant.
At twelve inches high, this mounded trailing Verbena makes a wonderful filler or spiller. Sure, you can combine it with other plants - silver and purple, or black and white would be great - but it’s so floriferous and dynamic it can be the star of any planting as well – in a container or in swaths as an edging. Butterflies love it, too!
Superbena Sparkling® Rosé Verbena Care
Verbenas tend toward being easy-care and drought-tolerant. This series amps up the mildew-resistance, heat tolerance, and fast growth. They can even hack rough neighborhoods, like poor soil. Since the flowers are self-cleaning, trimming is only needed if you want to foster a fuller growth habit. If so, prune the growing tips by about 1/3, adding fertilizer if in a container, and water well. This can be done any time, even at planting.
Superbenas’ fertilizer needs are similarly unfussy. In the landscape, fertilize with a slow-release fertilizer or compost while planting. In containers, repeat with water-soluble fertilizer regularly as directed to maximize bloom.
Superbena Sparkling® Rosé Verbena Spacing
Sparkling Rosé grows to about 30 inches wide and can trail up to 24 inches. In planters, an ideal spacing would be about ten inches, while used as a mass planting in a landscape, 14 -18 inches would be best.
