Another great addition to the color variations in the Superbena class of hybrid verbena, Stormburst brings us an outstanding color combination. Light violet blue with white stripes adorn bright green foliage, sporting hundreds of blossoms on each plant which will brighten your garden bed and create wonderful color combination possibilities for your container garden. Your imagination is your only limit here.

A tropical plant in its native territory of the Americas and Asia, and perennial in Zones 8a to 11b, verbena has been revered around the world for centuries with its beautiful array of colors and is available as an improved hybrid, making it easier for gardeners in Zones 3 to 7 to include this lovely annual in their garden beds and landscapes. One improvement is a greater heat tolerance that keeps the flowers blooming even during the hottest part of the summer.

Superbena® Stormburst Verbena Care

Superbena Stormburst can be grown in a wider array of soil types than its parent plant verbena. The preferred soil pH range is 5.8 to 6.2. You can amend poor soil by loosening heavy clay type soils with peat moss and sand. You can top dress fast draining soil with several inches of compost to provide what this hybrid and its parent plant have always needed, water, and lots of it. Needing consistently moist, not soggy soil, and proper feeding to maintain the non-stop blooming that continues well into fall in most regions, will be what verbenas need most from you.

Deadheading is not required as this plant cleans its spent blooms. It will benefit from pinching back when first planting to encourage branching and promote even more vigorous blooms. In especially warm and long season growing regions, you will find that this plant also benefits from an occasional shearing to help it maintain its mounding habit and prevent it from becoming leggy. Trim it, give it a feeding with a water soluble fertilizer and watch it rebound in a week or so with renewed blooming.

Superbena® Stormburst Verbena Spacing

Proper spacing of this annual is important to provide optimal health. The latest improvements of this hybrid, however, has made this a lot easier as this plant is much less susceptible to powdery mildew than its parents were. Growing up to 12 inches tall and spreading up to 30 inches wide, space plants 10 to 14 inches apart. Locate this low mounding plant at the forefront of your garden beds and as foundations for your containers and hanging baskets as it can trail up to 24 inches.
