The SuperBlue English Lavender or Lavandula angustifolia provides a lot of color in a limited space. Tiny bluish-purple flowers bloom in clusters on top of flower spikes that reach about one foot in height. The flowers bloom from spring into summer and provide a bold pop of color. Green lance-shaped foliage anchors the plant. The light fragrance of the flowers adds to the appeal of this perennial in a landscape.
Lavender is right at home in a cottage- or meadow-inspired garden. This plant is a good choice for a border or the middle of a mixed planting. Create a stunning mass planting or container arrangement where SuperBlue can take on the role of filler. Trim the flowers to use in arrangements or dry them for long-term use. Pollinators like bees also enjoy the dainty flowers. This beautiful plant grows in zones 5 through 8.
SuperBlue English Lavender Care
Plant Lavender in full sun in slightly alkaline, well-drained soil. Lavender cannot tolerate damp conditions, so drainage is vital. This drought-tolerant plant needs water after planting and during a dry spell once established. Fertilizer is not necessary, but a layer of organic compost can be applied in early spring.
Give the plant a light prune in late summer after the flowers fade. A summer pruning may encourage another flush of flowers, so trim again in the fall after the final blooms fade. Avoid cutting back into bare wood.
SuperBlue English Lavender Spacing
SuperBlue English Lavender reaches 10 to 12 inches tall and wide. Space Lavender plants 12 to 14 inches apart or plant one in a 14-inch container.
