Swans In Flight Siberian Iris, or Iris sibirica ‘Swans In Flight’ is a late-season perennial Iris with upright, snow-white standards and flaring white falls with yellow-gold signals. When planted in bunches, these graceful blooms resemble a bevy of glorious swans. This beardless option grows in clumps of thin, grassy-like leaves that produce long stems up to 3 feet tall, each holding 2 to 5 blossoms that bloom in late spring to early summer. It is a vigorous plant that spreads from 18 to 24 inches and succeeds in areas where other varieties may not.
Native to Europe and Asia, this Top Iris Award of the American Iris Society, Dykes Medal Winner is a favorite amongst gardeners. It has an upward clumping habit, is deciduous in winter, and grows quickly to its mature height. The Swans In Flight Siberian Iris works well as a cut flower, and florists love the brilliant white blooms for their showy flair. They are easy-to-grow, deer resistant, and low-maintenance. Especially after they are established.
Swans In Flight Siberian Iris Care
The Swans In Flight Siberian Iris prefers full or partial sun, but can tolerate dappled shade in hot climates. Its optimal growing conditions are moist, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. They can also grow well in damp areas. In colder areas, the Swans In Flight Siberian Iris should be planted in early spring to late summer.
In milder areas, it is better to plant them in the fall during dormancy. This variety should be watered liberally after planting until it is well-established. Deadheading will not prolong the bloom of these creamy buds.
Swans In Flight Siberian Iris Spacing
The Swans In Flight Siberian Iris should be spaced 18 to 24 inches apart. They are stunning when planted en masse or along borders, and this gorgeous variety is perfect for ceramic pots and containers. They are a great option for rain gardens or along water banks and creeks.
