The Sweet Lifeberry Goji Berry will be a feature plant in gardens across the US and Canada for multiple reasons. It begins life in spring as a bright purple flower against medium green foliage, resulting in a brilliant red berry in summer. This is not just any berry, it’s known to be a superfood, originating in Asia where generations have eaten the Goji berry to promote longer life. The Sweet Lifeberry Goji Berry is a rock star plant that will give you many years of incredible beauty, a delicious harvest as well as numerous health benefits!
Rich in nutrients, Goji berries are known to induce calmness, sleep, weight loss, an immune system boost and are high in antioxidants. Often claimed to be a fountain of youth in a berry. Uses include snacks, toppings, smoothie ingredients, as well as being used in wine, tea and medications. These beautiful berries will ripen in early summer and continue producing until the first significant frost. At the time of harvest, they should be a deep red with a sweet taste. Picking the berries is an easy task, being removed easily by hand. Often harvest can be as simple as gently shaking the plant for the berries to fall off. Just be sure to have a tarp underneath to catch and easily gather your precious crop!
Sweet Lifeberry® Goji Berry Care
The Sweet Lifeberry Goji Berry should be planted in early spring. It can be started from a seed which may take a minimum of three years to bear fruit. Beginning with an established plant will produce a crop in approximately two years. Plant in well-drained soil with a pH level of 7.0 to 8.0. Adding organic compost prior to planting will make your Sweet Lifeberry Goji Berry plant flourish. Adding fertilizer made for flowering woody plants will provide adequate nutrition.
During the first year, water thoroughly until the root system is established. Beyond that, it is a very drought-tolerant plant. Care includes adequate water and pruning. With its tall nature, the Goji Berry will need an upright structure such as a trellis for support as this plant grows upwards. Tie the strong and sturdy canes to the trellis for support.
The Sweet Lifeberry Goji Berry plant requires full sun but will tolerate some partial shade. Use bird netting to protect your crops from birds, raccoons and other creatures that love the berries as much as you will. The plant can be grown in a container with adequate space. The minimum pot size should be no less than 18 inches. Be sure there are drainage holes and made of weatherproof material that will hold up in outdoor elements. Repot the plant if it becomes root bound, usually every 2 to 3 years. Growing the plant indoors is difficult due to poor airflow creating a likely rotting environment. Also, container growing may result in smaller berries.
Sweet Lifeberry® Goji Berry Spacing
Space these plants 5 to 7 feet apart for adequate growth space. At maturity they should reach 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide.
