Loved for its colorful pink blooms and ability to attract wildlife into the garden, Sweet Meadow Mama™ Coneflower is ideal for many garden spots. With its slightly curled, pink petals that spread out from dark red cones, this echinacea really is a stunner. Being drought tolerant, this coneflower is simple to look after and is perfectly suited to any hot and sunny border. Plant it to attract butterflies and hummingbirds to your garden.
The Sweet Meadow Mama™ Coneflower has a small, compact habit, which makes it ideal for growing in containers or in drifts in a border. With virtually no known pests or diseases, this perennial is easy to grow and care for. Its blooms will repeat all summer long and are excellent when used as a cut flower. With its origins in the prairies of North America, the Sweet Meadow Mama™ Coneflower is well adapted to being grown in zones 3 to 8.
Sweet Meadow Mama™ Coneflower Care
As a drought-tolerant perennial, it is no surprise that this echinacea likes to be grown in full sun and on a well-drained soil. Even though this coneflower is tolerant of dry spells once established, it does require regular watering for the first growing season at least. When grown in all but the poorest of soils, coneflowers do need any fertilization apart from an annual mulch of organic matter. That being said, any container-grown plants can benefit from a balanced fertilizer applied in spring.
To encourage its glorious pink blooms to keep reappearing, any spent blooms can be snipped off throughout the summer. Once winter comes, the foliage will die back and can either be cut to the ground and removed in late winter or early spring. In colder areas, any pot-grown plants can be moved to an unheated greenhouse or cold frame to provide some winter protection.
Sweet Meadow Mama™ Coneflower Spacing
The Sweet Meadow Mama™ Coneflower can grow to a final height of 20-24 inches and a width of 18-24 inches. Often planted out in drifts or groups for best effect, space each echinacea plant around 2 feet apart.
