Producing blooms worthy of a florist shop’s window, this cut flower provides interest both inside and out. This striking ornamental shrub blooms from summer to fall, reaching a height and spread of 3 to 4 feet. The blooms emit a traditional damask perfume with spicy and fruity notes, attracting pollinators including butterflies. Sweet Spirit Grandiflora Rose thrives when provided with 6 to 8 hours of full sun. Plant it in a hole large enough to accommodate the root ball in loamy, moist, slightly acidic, well-draining soil. If the soil lacks adequate nutrients or does not drain well, add some organic compost upon planting. A typical rose, this shrub requires about one to two inches of water per week. Apply a few inches of mulch around the shrub’s base to reduce water loss. After this perennial begins to bloom, feed it regularly, once or twice a month, with a formula for roses. Doing so will encourage blooming versus leaf growth.
