If you are looking for a coniferous tree with some spectacular autumnal color, you will be hard-pressed to find a better specimen than the Tamarack Tree. Also known as Larix laricina, the Tamarack Tree forms an elegant upright shape up to 40 to 80 feet tall with bright green foliage that turns golden-yellow in the fall. Being cold hardy, the Tamarack Tree is ideal for colder locations and will impress with its bright foliage as winter approaches.
Unlike most conifers, the Tamarack Tree is deciduous and drops its needles with the onset of winter. An American native, the Tamarack Tree is deer tolerant and grows almost pest-free. It requires minimal if any pruning and is a low-maintenance specimen. Perfect as a specimen tree, you will want to plant the Tamarack Tree where its foliage color can be appreciated.
Tamarack Tree Care
The Tamarack Tree grows best in full sun. However, it can cope with a little shade as well. It prefers moist soil that is well drained and slightly acidic. Frequent irrigation is required for the first few years until established. Happiest in cooler conditions, the Tamarack Tree is suitable for growing in zones 2 to 5. Due to its eventual size and fast growth, care must be taken when siting this tree to avoid any overhead issues in the future.
The Tamarack Tree naturally forms an impressive pyramidal shade and generally does not require any pruning. However, any dead or damaged branches can be removed during its dormancy in winter.
Tamarack Tree Spacing
Over time, the Tamarack Tree can reach a size of 40 to 80 feet tall and 15 to 30 feet wide. A distance of 15 to 30 feet away from any other trees is advisable to let it grow unhindered.

Plant Shipping
Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.
Winter to Early Spring
We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.
Summer
If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.
Fall into Winter
We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!
Winter
Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!
Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
