As a screening evergreen shrub, it doesn’t get much better than the Technito® Arborvitae. Also known as Thuja occidentalis Technito®, this shrub produces dense lush foliage that holds its green color well through winter. Reaching a final height of 8 to 10 feet, this slow-growing evergreen has a wide array of uses. Furthermore, it is tough and low maintenance.

One of the many benefits of the Technito® Arborvitae is that it naturally forms a pleasing pyramidal shape and needs little ongoing care. Being hardy, it grows well in zones 3 to 8 and is even drought tolerant once established. Often used for creating a hedge and screening, the Technito® Arborvitae is also ideal for growing as a specimen or for framing an entrance or path.

Technito® Arborvitae Plant Care

For the densest foliage, the Technito® Arborvitae likes to grow in either full or partial sun. It is not fussy about the soil type or pH level. This tree will need regular watering for the first few years after planting. Once established, Technito® Arborvitae can cope with dry conditions and even some occasional standing water. To encourage its lush foliage, you can apply a nitrogen-based fertilizer in early spring.

Since it forms a pyramidal shape without much intervention, pruning is seldom required. However, you can lightly trim it to shape or size in early summer. In colder parts, you can mulch around the base of the shrub to help insulate the roots from the cold.

Technito® Arborvitae Plant Spacing

Over time, the Technito® Arborvitae can grow to 8 to 10 feet high and 4 to 5 feet wide. When grown as a specimen, a plant spacing of 5 to 6 feet is appropriate. When planting to form a hedge, the distance can be reduced to about 4 feet.
