Loved for its unusual foliage and cheerful yellow blooms, this Tequila Sunrise Tickseed is perfect for adding interest and impact to the garden. In spring, its attractive, green-and-white variegated foliage emerges along with red-centered, yellow flowers from midsummer onwards. Even though this coreopsis is compact, it provides a great injection of color and is ideally suited for growing in any sunny spot.

This tough tickseed hybrid is suitable for growing in zones 4 to 9. It thrives in the heat and once established, can cope with drought conditions. If given the correct conditions, it is easy to grow and being perennial will come back year after year. As a compact cultivar, the Tequila Sunrise Tickseed is perfect for container growing or planting out in a hot and sunny border.

Tequila Sunrise Tickseed Care

For the best blooms and repeat flowering, this coreopsis should be grown where it can receive full sun; a south-facing spot would be ideal. Apart from lots of sunlight, the only other thing it needs to thrive is free-draining soil. Even though tickseeds are drought tolerant, regular watering upon planting and for the first year is required to help it establish. Generally, supplementary fertilizing is seldom required; however, a balanced, slow-release fertilizer can be applied sparingly in spring to encourage more blooms.

To encourage this perennial to rebloom, any spent blooms should be deadheaded throughout the summer. Once the first frost of winter has arrived, the stems can be cut back to 6 inches above soil level.

Tequila Sunrise Tickseed Spacing

The Tequila Sunrise Tickseed is a compact plant and will reach a maximum height and spread of around 12-18 inches. If planting this coreopsis out in a group, it can be spaced around 16 to 18 inches apart.
