Mountain Laurel is an early-blooming shrub that features striking flowers. The Tiddlywinks Mountain Laurel has dark pink buds that unfurl, almost like origami, to reveal pale pink followers. This broadleaf shrub needs partial sun, but the more light it receives, the darker and more intense the flower color. The blooms grow in clusters for a bold and colorful statement.

This shrub has an upright growth habit and features a woody, branched structure. Narrow green foliage has a glossy look. The Tiddlywinks Mountain Laurel is not very large, so it fits nicely in a bed or border. This shrub is just tall enough to use as a foundation planting or simply to provide a pop of springtime color in a mass planting. Grow this Mountain Laurel as a perennial in USDA zones 5 through 9.

Tiddlywinks Mountain Laurel Care

Plant the Tiddlywinks Mountain Laurel in an area that receives about 4 hours of sunlight. This plant prefers partial light and the amount of light impacts the intensity of the flower color. Water weekly or when the top few inches of soil are dry. New plants need consistent water, but established plants can be drier. Soil should be fertile and moist but still, allow for drainage. Slightly acidic soil will support more abundant blooms. Feed Mountain Laurel using a balanced or acidic fertilizer each spring.

Prune the plant to maintain the shape as needed after the flowers fade. Mountain Laurel can benefit from a rejuvenating trim every few years.

Tiddlywinks Mountain Laurel Spacing

This cultivar has a small form compared to other types of Mountain Laurel and will grow 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. Plants used in a hedge or dense planting can be spaced 3 to 4 feet apart.
