Tiny Diamond Asiatic Lily offers huge rewards whether added to landscapes/containers or lovely cut flower bouquets. This lily offers large, showy, six-petaled, ruby-pink blooms, lightly brushed with ivory at their centers. With emerald-green foliage, this dwarf pot lily provides infinite color and texture. This compact perennial from the Lily Looks™ collection is also known as Lilium a. 'Tiny Diamond', Lilium Lily Looks™ Tiny Diamond, and Asiatic Pot Lily. It attracts oodles of pollinators including bees, butterflies, and, of course, those magical hummingbirds with its striking spring blooms. Not only does this hybrid add to the beauty of a landscape, patio, or deck but it supports the environment as well.
Tiny Diamond Asiatic Lily is a cold-tolerant hybrid, hardy in zones 3-9, and is deer resistant. Growing upright and compact, this dwarf Asiatic pot lily reaches a maximum height of only 10 to 16 inches and spread of 10 to 12 inches. It is low maintenance and easy to grow. For any person wanting big color from a compact plant with minimal problems, this Asian native plant is a smart choice.
Tiny Diamond Asiatic Lily Care
Plant Tiny Diamond Asiatic Lily in loamy, slightly acidic, well-draining soil. Aim for a pH level of 6.0 to 7.0. If the soil does not drain well and/or lacks sufficient nutrients, amend with peat moss/coco coir/sand/perlite. This ornamental perennial requires approximately 6 hours of sun to thrive. Plant it in full to partial sun. An east-facing spot that provides morning sun but is protected from harsh afternoon rays is ideal. This ornamental perennial has average watering needs. Supply it with about an inch of water per week. To encourage better blooming, apply a fertilizer with less nitrogen than phosphorus/potassium just before this plant begins to flower. Doing so will encourage the plant to focus its energy on flower production versus foliage growth.
During the blooming season, cutting flowers for bouquets is the most enjoyable way to prune Tiny Diamond Asiatic Lily. Otherwise, deadhead spent flowers in order to encourage additional blooms. After the first heavy frost of fall, cut back or shear this ornamental to an inch or so above the soil to prepare for winter.
Tiny Diamond Asiatic Lily Spacing
Offering maximum benefit in spite of its minimal size, Tiny Diamond Asiatic Lily makes a lovely specimen. Common uses include borders, beds, and containers. In a container’s thriller-spiller-filler combination, this ornamental is best utilized as a thriller. When planted en masse for a colorful impact, space each plant about 10 inches apart. Good companion plants include daisies, lilacs, peonies, phlox, poppies, and roses in beds and bouquets.
