Growing Zones
The Top Point Dwarf White Cedar is a compact beauty that provides year-round color and texture. The Chamaecyparis thyoides have dense, short needled foliage in a deep green, although new foliage will have hints of blue. The foliage will turn a deep purplish-red with bronze tones during the winter. The Top Point Dwarf White Cedar is native to North America, meaning it requires very little attention once it is acclimated.
This slow-grower can be planted in a container or along a foundation wall. Feature this stunner in beds, borders, or a mass planting. The dense foliage provides color and privacy if used as a hedge. Songbirds and other small animals will take shelter in the full foliage. Grow the Top Point Dwarf White Cedar as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.
Top Point Dwarf White Cedar Care
Grow this shrub in full sun. Use rich, moist soil with good drainage. This plant is drought-tolerant once established but consistently water for the first growing season, giving the plant at least one inch of water per week.
Feed this white cedar using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer each spring. Remove dead growth as necessary and shape the plant in late winter or early spring.
Top Point Dwarf White Cedar Spacing
The Top Point Dwarf White Cedar is an upright plant that grows slowly. Mature plants will reach 4 to 5 feet tall and spread 18 to 24 inches. Space shrubs 16 to 20 inches apart to create a full, dense hedge or planting.
