An award-winning cultivar from Altman Plant’s True Bloom series, True Friendship Rose is distinguished by its abundant clusters of double blooms in varying yellow shades from blonde to pineapple. With lustrous, emerald-green foliage supporting the large blooms, True Friendship Rose is an ideal cut flower to add to a garden bed, border, or container. This showy floribunda blossoms from spring until the first heavy frost of autumn, infusing the air with a honeyed fragrance with notes of sugar and spice. Growing to a maximum height and spread of 2 to 4 feet, this compact ornamental is an ideal selection to grow in a container on a deck, patio, or porch.
Tracing its heritage back to Asia and Europe, this floribunda shrub has exceptional disease resistance and is easy to care for. True Friendship is a great option for an active person who has minimal hours of experience in the garden. Its delightful perfume will attract pollinators including hummingbirds and bees. Growing compact and upright, this deciduous shrub makes a fantastic patio rose. Protect its lovely flowers and foliage from deer by planting it with lavender, rosemary, and hellebore.
True Friendship Rose Care
This floribunda rose thrives when exposed to 6 to 8 hours of full sun. Plant True Friendship Rose in a hole that is big enough to hold its root ball. The soil should be moist, rich, and well draining. Apply three inches of mulch in a ring around the rose’s base. Give this rose one to two inches of water per week throughout the growing season. Feed this vigorous, repeat bloomer with a fertilizer containing approximately 4-8-4 NPK once or twice per month throughout the flowering season.
Prune True Friendship in late winter. Remove crossed, dead, diseased, and damaged stems to enable better air circulation throughout the plant and to avert disease. Cut back the length of the remaining canes by about one-third. Trim spent flowers throughout the blooming months.
True Friendship Rose Spacing
A compact shrub, True Friendship thrives in containers, beds, and borders. Space each shrub 2-3 feet apart when planting en masse. Plant it alongside companion plants such as marigold, foxglove, and snapdragons to create beds with varying heights, colors, and textures. Cut the brilliant blooms and combine them with alstroemeria, baby’s breath, asters, eucalyptus, Gerber daisies, and statice to create cheerful, bright bouquets.
