If you are searching for a rose bush providing color, texture, movement, and charm, look no further than the champion True Love™ Rose. Bred by legendary rosarian, Ping Lin, True Love™ is a cross between a hybrid tea rose and a shrub rose. The resulting floribunda rose features full, cupped, blood-red rosettes with 80 plus petals. Flowering from spring through summer, its vivid blooms emit a light fragrance, mesmerizing native pollinators including bees. The blooms are offset by shimmering, imperial green leafage. Whether added to beds, borders, or containers, this rose shrub is destined to add bursts of bold color.

Reaching only 30 to 36 inches high and 20 to 24 inches wide, this deciduous perennial grows bushy and compact. A vigorous cultivar, True Love™ Rose displays a high level of resistance to disease and is cold hardy in zones 4 to 9. A typical member of the Altman Plants’ True Bloom series, this ornamental also withstands high humidity and heat. With its huge florets, delightful aroma, and a low-maintenance needs, this is a wonderful choice for any uncertain, busy gardener who wants to make a big statement without having to spend a lot of time. This compact selection also makes a great patio rose to enhance an outdoor living space.

True Love™ Rose Care

True Love™ Rose adores basking in the sun. Providing it with at least six hours of full sun will maximize its bloom potential. This cultivar grows best in moist, loamy, well-draining soil that is a touch acidic. If the soil is compact or poor, mix in compost at planting. Plant True Love™ in a hole that’s large enough to hold the root mass. Add a couple of inches of mulch around the base to reduce water loss. Water this rose regularly during the growing season, making sure that it gets at least an inch of water per week. Feed it a balanced (10-10-10) fertilizer at the beginning of the growing season, and once flowering has begun, change to a formula with higher phosphorus and potassium and apply one or two times every month for the remainder of the blooming season.

Prune this repeat bloomer during late February or early March. Remove any crossing, diseased, damaged, and dead canes. Cut the remaining stems back by 33% to 50%.  Trim spent flowers throughout the blooming season to encourage reblooming and discourage disease.

True Love™ Rose Spacing

With its vibrant deep red blooms quickly drawing attention, this ornamental works well either planted alone as a specimen or en masse, in borders, beds, and hedges. When planted in groups, space each rose 2 to 3 feet apart. Combine the flowering stems of True Love™ Rose with white daisies, eucalyptus, fern, pure white hydrangea, and pale pink peonies to make dynamic bouquets with lots of color.
