The color combination of Uptick Yellow and Red Tickseed will brighten up anyone's day. The Coreopsis hybrid develops little button-shaped flower buds in late spring that open to reveal yellow daisy-like flower petals with deep, maroon-red centers. The flowers make you smile as you walk by, and they rise above a neat, mounded center of delicate green leaves. The plant reaches about 14 inches high and around.
Uptick Yellow and Red Tickseed is a sunny summer border plant or container filler. And it is delightfully bright when planted as a mass of flowers like a meadow. The plant continues blooming throughout summer. Coreopsis is a North American native, so the plant tends to be low maintenance and a host for bees and butterflies. Deer ignore tickseed, but everyone who sees this pretty flower on your patio or in your yard will look at least twice.
Uptick Yellow and Red Tickseed Care
Plant Uptick Yellow and Red Tickseed in full sun in nearly any soil type that drains well. The plant is hardy to the cold of zone 4 and takes the heat of zone 9, coming back in spring as a perennial plant. Give your tickseed average water. Deadheading, or removing faded flowers, will help Coreopsis continue to bloom. Otherwise, this little native hybrid needs no extra care.
Uptick Yellow and Red Tickseed Spacing
For a border or cut flower meadow, space Uptick Yellow and Red Tickseed plants about 14 inches apart from center to center.
