Valentine Bleeding Heart is the perfect name for this plant! Deep, blood red heart shaped flowers with a peek of white, hang pendulously from arching, dark red stems with gray-green foliage tinged with red highlighting the flowers! A fast growing perennial that will give you years of delight! This old fashioned plant was in your grandmother’s garden. I know it was in my grandmother’s garden!

This is a late spring bloomer in the perennial garden. It is Bambi resistant, is ideal for those shady to partly shade areas plus pollinators love it! It has a mounding growth habit and is 28-30 inches high. This is a plant you will find in cottage gardens. It does fade out once the summer heat comes in but is back in full force after winter.

Valentine Bleeding Heart Care

‘Valentine’ is hardy from Zone 3a- 9b which means you can grow it just about anywhere in the country. It likes moist but well-draining soil, part shade for best blooms and should be fertilized with a slow release fertilizer such as Espoma Flower Tone.

Valentine Bleeding Heart Spacing

Bleeding Heart is found in gardens everywhere. The tiny heart shaped flowers make it a favorite with gardeners. Plant 28-30 inches on center for a mass planting. Ideally plant it between summer annuals and perennials to have color from spring through fall.
