Growing Zones
Everything about the Variegated Radicans Gardenia is over the top but in the best way possible. Gardenia jasminoides 'Variegated Radicans' features large pure white double blooms. The flowers bloom throughout the growing season and smother the shrub. Lance-shaped leaves are dark green and have a high gloss. The foliage has a zesty floral fragrance for an unexpected and enjoyable perk.
Create a lovely hedge, foundation planting, or border along a walkway or outdoor entertaining area with the Variegated Radicans Gardenia. Let the plant develop a natural form, or shape it for a more formal appearance. Select a planting location away from large shrubs and trees because gardenia roots do not like to be disturbed. This gardenia makes an excellent container plant. An advantage of growing this beauty in a container is that it can be moved indoors for the winter, allowing it to live outside its growing range.
Variegated Radicans Gardenia Care
Variegated Radicans Gardenia grows best in part shade in rich, moist, well-drained soil with an acidic pH. Keep the soil evenly moist, and avoid dry or soggy conditions. This beauty is a heavy feeder, so fertilize with a balanced formula every few weeks during the spring and summer.
Remove spent flowers to prolong the bloom cycle. Prune leggy overgrowth after the flowers decline to maintain a nice shape and a tidy appearance.
Variegated Radicans Gardenia Spacing
Variegated Radicans Gardenia reach 3 to 6 feet tall and 2 to 5 feet wide. Space plants 2 to 5 feet apart when creating a hedge or continuous planting.
