The lovely flowers of the Venosa Violacea Clematis have an almost ombre-like color fade for a stunning appearance. The 5-petaled flowers of this Clematis hybrid are a staggering 4 to 5 inches wide. The flowers are white near the center and have such intense purple veining that the blooms appear purple. The petals gradually fade to a dark purple at the tips of the petals. The Venosa Violacea Clematis is a reaching vine and blooms during the summer.
Plant this Clematis near a fence or use an arbor or trellis so the reaching stems have something to climb. This plant is a natural climber and will look its best when it can latch onto a support. Medium green leaves provide additional color and texture and give the vine a full appearance. Pollinators enjoy the lovely blooms, while foragers like deer and rabbits leave the plant alone.
Venosa Violacea Clematis Care
Select a planting location in full sun to part shade. The Venosa Violacea Clematis thrives in a spot where the roots are in shade, but the stems are in full sun. Use a moist, well-drained soil that is neutral to slightly alkaline. Give the plant about one inch of water weekly and increase water during a dry spell. This Clematis is a heavy feeder, so apply fertilizer every few weeks during the growing season.
Follow group 3 guidelines for pruning the Venosa Violacea Clematis. Wait until late winter or early spring to remove overgrowth and shape the plant.
Venosa Violacea Clematis Spacing
The Venosa Violacea Clematis reaches 8 to 9 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Space plants 2 feet apart to create a dense wall of foliage and flowers.
