Virtuoso™ Classy Carmine™ Dahlia (Dahlia variabilis) shows off deep pink-red petals from midsummer to fall. The lush green foliage frames each bloom in an eye-catching display. This plant typically grows about 18 to 24 inches tall and is an exciting option for any landscape. Its long-lasting color stands out compared to other garden choices.
Its fragrant blooms add appeal in mixed borders, and its compact habit makes it ideal for container gardens. This dahlia is known for resisting common diseases and tolerating periods of drought once established. It is native to regions of Central America, yet thrives in many climates worldwide. Use it in mass plantings, edge a walkway, or set a single specimen in a decorative pot.
Virtuoso™ Classy Carmine™ Dahlia Care
Plant it in well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Water regularly, allowing the soil to slightly dry between waterings to prevent root rot. Fertilize monthly with a balanced formula, particularly when active growth is visible. Place it in full sun for best results, though partial sun is acceptable in hotter regions.
Deadheading spent blooms extends the flowering season, while light pinching helps shape the plant. Thin out congested stems in late spring, and trim damaged growth if needed. Cut back the plant after the first freeze and lift the tubers in cold climates. If grown in containers, use a quality potting mix and store the tubers in a frost-free spot when temperatures drop.
Virtuoso™ Classy Carmine™ Dahlia Spacing
Allow about 12 to 18 inches between each plant in rows or mass plantings for ample airflow. If you’re growing it as a single specimen, give it space to spread to its mature width. Containers of at least 10 to 12 inches in diameter accommodate a new plant comfortably.
