Virtuoso™ Pinkerific™ Dahlia (Dahlia variabilis) fills gardens with soft pink double flowers from early summer to frost. It typically grows 14 to 18 inches tall, bringing lasting color without crowding smaller spaces. Its richly colored petals add a cheerful note to any landscape. Many gardeners prefer it because it continues producing new blooms under varying conditions.
Its sturdy stems form a neat mound suitable for sunny borders. This variety, originally hailing from Mexico, displays moderate resistance to common pests and diseases. Deer tend to avoid feeding on its foliage, which helps it maintain a tidy appearance. It performs reliably in containers, mass plantings, and mixed flower beds all season long.
Virtuoso™ Pinkerific™ Dahlia Care
Plant in well-draining soil amended with organic matter. Provide full sun or at least six hours of direct light each day, keeping the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Feed monthly with a balanced fertilizer to support ongoing bud production. Slightly acidic to neutral soil pH typically gives the best results.
Pinch new growth to promote branching, and remove old flower heads to encourage more buds. Thinning crowded stems helps reduce the risk of disease, while shearing lightly can shape the plant as needed. In colder regions, dig up and store tubers indoors, away from frost or freezing temperatures. Potted specimens should be watered carefully, avoiding soggy soil.
Virtuoso™ Pinkerific™ Dahlia Spacing
Space plants about 12 to 15 inches apart for healthy airflow and steady growth in flower beds or rows. Closer spacing around 10 inches creates a denser show in borders or mass plantings. Select a container at least 10 inches deep and wide for new plantings, with larger pots accommodating growth with other container companions.
