Aah, garden phlox! Now that is an old time perennial favorite in the garden if ever there was one. But this is not your typical garden phlox, oh no. This brand new phlox cultivar blows the others right out of the soil. 

A bi-color of white and lilac clusters of fragrant blooms appear on sturdy stems on a low-growing compact plant from June through September. This low maintenance beauty was bred for disease tolerance and is a perfect addition to the cottage garden or perennial border.

Garden phlox prefer full sun but will tolerate some light shade. Phlox will grow in average, moist, well-drained garden soil but would do better with an application of cow manure or compost at the time of planting or later as a top dressing on established plants. 

Watering should be done at the base of the plant to aid in disease prevention and preferably in the morning to allow any accidental moisture on leaves to dry off in the sun. At about 6 to 8 inches in height the stems should be pinched back to encourage more growth which will help to stimulate the production of more flowers. After flowering the spent flower heads should be removed to prevent the growth of seed pods which can rob the plant of energy and hinder the development of new blossoms.

At a mature height of 18 to 24 inches and a spread of about 15 to 18 inches this phlox would do well to stand alone or in small, well spaced groups as to allow for maximum air circulation and help eliminate the possibility of powdery mildew.
