Growing Zones
The large coral-pink blooms of the Watchet Azalea will brighten up your garden wherever you plant it. Also known botanically as Rhododendron x 'Watchet', this evergreen azalea grows to around 2 to 3 feet high, making it a versatile plant. Flowering in late spring, the funnel-shaped flowers may also rebloom sporadically over the summer.
Over time, the Watchet Azalea develops a compact form of dense branches. Once established, it requires minimal ongoing care and is ideal for low-maintenance landscapes. This azalea is perfectly suited to growing in a mixed bed or border or for growing as a specimen in a large container or planter.
Watchet Azalea Care
For the Watchet Azalea to thrive and for the best flowering display, plant it in partial or dappled sun. It prefers a slightly acidic soil that is fertile and moist, but well drained. Water frequently after planting until established; from there on, water to keep the soil on the moist side, especially during hot weather. Mulch annually and fertilize if necessary in early spring, with an ericaceous feed.
You can lightly prune the Watchet Azalea for shape after the flowers fade. It blooms on old wood, so do not wait too long in the season to shape the branches. When grown in a container, more frequent irrigation will be needed to prevent the soil from drying out.
Watchet Azalea Spacing
The Watchet Azalea can grow to a mature size of 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide. Plant at a spacing of 3 to 5 feet apart, or grow it on its own in a container large enough to house the rootball.
