Let this Waxwing Orange Mirror Bush set your garden bed ablaze with its fiery leaves and brilliant sheen. Just as colorful as most floral displays, Waxwing Orange lends color, light, and structure to the landscape. A native to New Zealand, the mirror bush loves the heat. It can’t survive outdoors in Zones below 9, but it can be brought inside before the first frost and enjoyed as a houseplant. If you can’t resist its unique gleaming leaves, using it as a container plant and bringing it indoors for the winter is a great option.
Waxwing Orange Mirror Bush has some of the most colorful, waxy leaves you can find in a shrub. Its low-growing, mounded growth habit and striking variegated leaves lends itself well to a variety of uses in the landscape. From containers to borders and edges to groundcover and mass plantings, you’ll love the look of Waxwing Orange Mirror Bush no matter where you site it.
Waxwing Orange Mirror Bush Care
Gardeners in Zone 9 or above will find the Waxwing Orange Mirror Bush to be a low-maintenance beauty year round. It requires average soil moisture and fertility, and thrives in the heat. Be sure to plant your mirror bush in a space that gets at least four hours of sunlight per day. Waxwing orange has a lovely growth habit without any shaping or pruning. However, it can be trimmed as needed through the season if you desire a specific shape.
If you decide to overwinter your mirror bush indoors, be sure to bring it inside before the first frost. Treat it for any pests or disease before bringing it inside. Put it in a space with plenty of light and water it when the soil is dry to the touch. Keep it on a pebble mat or near a humidifier if you experience dry winter air.
Waxwing Orange Mirror Bush Spacing
Waxwing Orange Mirror Bush will grow to have about a 3’ spread at maturity. Plant it about 3’, or 36” apart from other plants to give it room to grow.
