Webmaster Spiderwort (Tradescantia ‘Webmaster’) adds a soft purple glow to borders and containers, displaying lilac-tinted flowers from early summer into midsummer. Each bloom measures around two inches wide, rising above thin green leaves that reach about 18 inches in height. We appreciate its easygoing charm and pollinator appeal, as bees and butterflies often hover around these pastel petals. This native perennial offers a delicate focal point in gardens of all sizes.

Beyond the gentle hue, it tolerates a range of sunlight conditions—from partial shade to full sun—if the soil stays evenly moist. Deer and rabbits typically pass it by, leaving its neat clump of foliage intact through the growing season. Rain gardens and water features benefit from its ability to thrive in damp soil, though it adapts well to average beds. Whether planted in mass along a shady path or as a border accent, it remains low maintenance and quietly appealing throughout.

Webmaster Spiderwort Care

Position it in a spot with rich, well-drained soil, though average garden soil works if you water regularly. A slightly acidic to neutral pH suits it best, and moderate fertilizing in spring provides ample nutrients for consistent growth. Full sun encourages abundant flowering, but partial shade preserves lush foliage during hotter months. Aim to water once or twice a week to keep the root zone from drying out.

Cut back faded stalks after the initial bloom period, which can coax out a smaller second flush of color. Container-grown spiderwort needs frequent watering in summer, plus a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every few weeks. Winter care is generally minimal; leave the foliage standing to protect crowns in colder climates, then remove spent growth in early spring as new shoots appear. Some gardeners divide mature clumps every few years to keep growth fresh and vigorous.

Webmaster Spiderwort Spacing

Set plants around 18 to 24 inches apart to allow their stems and leaves room to spread while forming a cohesive display. If growing in a container, choose one at least 12 inches wide so the root system can establish fully without becoming cramped.
