True Love Lenten Rose will steal your heart with its supersized 3-3.5” double red flowers full of intricate detail. Each flower (technically a sepal, but let’s go with flower) is delicately veined and edges in dark burgundy on a field of deep rose, with a central pop of fluffy lime stamens. The many and persistent flowers on True Love are an early sign of spring, attracting and feeding hummingbirds and bees in need of nourishment. The blossoms do well indoors and are often floated dramatically in a bowl to show them to best effect.
True Love is a noble presence, reaching up to 24 inches tall and wide, and loaded with flowers. The evergreen foliage adds bold texture to landscapes and containers year-round. Hellebores are easy-care, resilient plants that give much and ask little, offering a better display every year. They are deer- and rabbit-resistant, and even can tolerate some drought once established in their site after the first two years. True Love comes from the Wedding Party series of helleborus hybrids from noted plantsman Hans Hansen, selected for rich colors, high flower count, and vigor.
Wedding Party® True Love Lenten Rose Care
Give your True Love a spot to grow protected from the hottest afternoon sun, in neutral to alkaline soil, and keep evenly moist, and you will be very happy together. The soil can be mainly clay or sand, but True Love will prefer a loamy organic soil with a nice deep mulch. Hellebores can even grow under large deciduous trees if there is enough space for their roots to roam. As mentioned, wherever you grow your hellebores, you’ll always want to water consistently the first few growing seasons.
Hellebores require very little in the way of fertilizer, so if you can supplement with a handful of compost, or perhaps some cow manure in early spring, that should suit them very well. You can also do one addition of slow-release fertilizer at that time, if desired.
Wedding Party® True Love Lenten Rose Spacing
We recommend allowing about two feet for optimal growth of your True Love Lenten Rose. Proper spacing allows enough room for the roots once the plants mature, and gives enough air circulation between the plants.
