With its alluring minty scent, compact mounding habit, and pollinator-attracting flowers, the Whispurr™ Pink Catmint (Nepeta x faassenii ‘Whispurr Pink’) is a must-have in any sunny perennial garden. This fast-growing perennial has vibrant-green, mint-like leaves and produces strong, upright flower spikes packed with tubular, ballet-slipper-pink flowers flecked with white. Whispurr™ Pink blooms in the spring through summer.

Once established, this drought- and heat-tolerant plant needs minimal water and maintenance, and can withstand hotter climates without sacrificing its blooms. Growing 24-28 inches tall and 18-24 inches wide, Whispurr™ Pink is ideal as a mounding border plant or as a worryfree potted patio plant. This catmint works well as a “spiller” plant, as it tends to cascade over the edge of containers and borders. Its minty scent makes it deer resistant, perfect for a sunny garden in a woodsy area. Like the name suggests, catmint is known to be a favorite plant of our feline friends.

Whispurr™ Pink Catmint Care

Catmint grows well in average well-draining soil and needs regular watering in its first year. Once established, catmint tends to thrive without much care, even during periods of high heat and drought. To plant it, dig a hole that is twice the width as the root ball and of equal depth. For best results, plant Whispurr™ Pink Catmint in full to part sun where it can get at least 5 hours of sun a day.

Catmint can grow well in nutrient-poor soil and does not need fertilizer, though it may benefit from the application of a slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As a vegetative perennial, it is common for Catmint to die back in the winter, and the old branches can be cut back 4-6 inches above the soil in the early spring before new growth arrives. Trim back spent blooms in the summer to keep Whispurr™ Pink Catmint looking neat and tidy.

Whispurr™ Pink Catmint Spacing

Space catmint plants about 18 inches apart and away from others to allow for growth. Like other perennials in containers, choose a large pot with adequate drainage to allow Whispurr™ Pink room to grow.
