White Cloud Calamintha, botanically known as Calamintha nepeta ssp. glandulosa, is an easy-care, airy beauty that fills the garden with nectar-rich, delicate, white flowers from late spring to frost. Its deliciously fragrant foliage is similar to the culinary combination of mint and oregano; bees and beneficial pollinators are very attracted to this plant. Its tubular white flowers cover sturdy wiry stems and appear airy and fresh even on the hottest days of summer.
Plant White Cloud where its fragrance can be enjoyed up close, such as near walkways or garden paths. It grows in zones 5-9, reaching 24 inches tall and wide. This drought-tolerant perennial is resistant to browsing deer and rabbits. Plant this aromatic, knee-high pollinator magnet as a filler under leggier perennials; it is also excellent when planted in drifts to soften borders.
White Cloud Calamintha Care
Plant White Cloud in full sun locations for best flowering, but it will appreciate morning sun and afternoon shade in hot climates. This non-fussy perennial is tolerant of most soil types, from dry to moist conditions. Once White Cloud Calamintha is established, it's extremely drought tolerant.
Trim back White Cloud Calamintha to 6 inches from soil level after it finishes blooming in the fall, or wait until early spring. Calamintha self-sows prolifically from the dried seed heads, so remove spent flower heads if you do not want seedlings the following growing season.
White Cloud Calamintha Spacing
White Cloud Calamintha is a perfect selection for pollinator gardens, waterwise perennial gardens, and walkways and borders to enjoy its fragrance when the leaves are brushed up against. If planting en masse or groups, allow 18 inches between plants to accommodate the mature spread.
