Feature this beauty is beds, borders, or mass plantings. Aster has an upright growth habit, but this plant is small in stature and will reach 12 to 15 inches tall, so plant near the front of a bed, where the blooms will be on full display. The tall stems make this plant a wonderful cut flower. Butterflies are drawn to the blooms for added convenience and visual interest. This beautiful, low-maintenance plant is not prone to mildew and grows as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.

Wood's Blue Aster Care

Aster needs full to part sun, so plant in an area that receives 4 to 6 hours of sunlight. Rich soil that is moist but well-drained will support large and healthy plants. Water weekly or when the top several inches of soil dries out.

This plant does not need to be fertilized, especially when grown in rich soil. Apply a layer of organic compost or balanced plant food in the spring. The greenery can be cut back after the flowers fade in the fall.

Wood's Blue Aster Spacing

Wood's Blue Aster is an upright plant that will grow 12 to 15 inches tall. This perennial spreads 12 to 24 inches. Create a dense mass planting by spacing plants 8 to 14 inches apart.
