Growing Zones
Make the most of shady areas of your landscape or entryway with Wrinkle in Time Hosta. This hosta hybrid has all the perennial’s positives--especially its ability to thrive in shade--plus unique foliage that adds texture and color to shaded beds or containers. The variegated leaves are a showy dark green, but with creamy yellow edges. As the leaves mature, they turn to creamy white. In summer, lavender-colored flowers rise above the foliage for more color and to feed hummingbirds.
This pretty hosta is hardy in zones 3 through 9, growing to nearly 9 inches high and 15 inches wide. The flower scapes rise 20 inches above the foliage. Wrinkle in Time is a miniature hosta packed with color power and is an excellent choice for containers on shaded patios or to border structures and beds in the landscape that are shaded by trees or the house. The easy-care perennials look especially attractive when planted in a grouping in the dappled shade of a tree.
Wrinkle in Time Hosta Care
Hostas prefer soil that is evenly moist and plenty fertile with organic matter. Hostas are adaptable to most conditions except drought, so be sure to water them regularly. Containers dry out more quickly than the ground, so it is important to observe and set up a schedule to water container-grown hostas.
Adding a low-nitrogen fertilizer in spring can help your hosta thrive. Be sure to choose a slow-release formula, which will give the plants a little bit of food over a long period. Hostas are subject to damage from overfertilizing or from granular formulas coated with substances like sulfur or urea. This hosta needs little care or pruning. Trim off dead leaves after first frost to prepare the plant for its winter rest, and cut flower scapes to foliage level after flowers fade.
Wrinkle in Time Hosta Spacing
Hostas can take a few years to reach their full mature size, so consider the size when placing groups of hostas in a row or a mass planting. Space each Wrinkle in Time Hosta about 25 inches from the center or the next.
