The Yellow Zebra Potato Vine is a vigorous grower that will quickly push out beautiful foliage along the reaching vines. This variety is also known as Solanum jasminoides, and it boasts yellow and green variegation on long, pointed leaves. This plant will bloom during the spring and summer, and while the flowers are lovely, this plant is grown for its showy foliage.
The vines of this plant can reach 4 feet long and look amazing when used to cover an arbor or trellis or create a curtain of greenery hanging down from a basket or window box. Yellow Zebra Potato Vine may need assistance covering a fence or lattice, so be prepared to lend a hand and weave the vines along the support or use twine to secure the vines in place. Plant this climbing thriller in a landscape container, or use the foliage to give a patio or outdoor area some privacy.
Yellow Zebra Potato Vine Care
The Yellow Zebra Potato Vine requires partial to full sun. This plant also likes consistent water, so give the plant a drink before the soil dries out, but be careful not to overwater because this plant does not like soggy conditions. Well-draining, rich soil that has a 7.0 to 8.0 pH is ideal. Apply a water-soluble fertilizer every other week during the growing season.
Yellow Zebra Potato Vine is a fast-growing plant, so it can easily overtake an area. Cut the vines back if the plant starts to outgrow or overwhelm the space. This plant is grown as an annual in most areas, but it can be brought indoors to overwinter. Trim the vines back, place the plant in a bright spot, and water when the soil starts to dry out.
Yellow Zebra Potato Vine Spacing
The vines of this plant can reach 24 to 48 inches, and the plant will reach 18 to 24 inches wide. When used as part of a landscape, the Yellow Zebra Potato Vine can be spaced 18 to 24 inches apart or feature 3 to 4 plants in a 12-inch container.
