Yellow flowers show up in the very early days of spring. Come early summer you will have yummy berries to pick and eat or use in your favorite jam recipe.
The foliage is dark green, the yellow flowers appear in the early spring, then what this shrub is known for, its sizeable blue berries, make their appearance in early summer. These berries can be eaten straight from the plant or used in numerous recipes. The Yezberry Solo Haskap Berry has a garden height of 60” to 72” inches and a spread of 60”-72” inches. The mounded growing habit makes it a great addition as a thriller in container planting. This plant is good for screening and does well with mass planting.
Yezberry Solo Haskap Berry Care
To produce berries, plant another Yezberry alongside. Plant in full to part sun, ensure it receives at least four hours of sun a day. For optimal berry production be sure it receives six hours of sun and plenty of air. It has average water needs and prefers well drained soil. This Yezberry is not picky about soil types and can tolerate all soils with varying PH levels. Fruit should be harvested soon after it turns blue, testing and making sure its sweet.
Note: This plant does not require another Yezberry to be planted with it in order to cross-pollinate and produce fruit. However, we recommend planting with another variety of Yezberry with it, because it will produce much more fruit if you do.
Yezberry Solo Haskap Berry Spacing
To make harvesting easy and to give your Yezberry Solo Haskap Berry proper room to grow space it at least 60” inches, center on center. Correct spacing will ensure the health and longevity of the plant.
Interesting Fact(s) - Yezberry® Japanese haskaps are closely related to best-selling Sugar Mountain® sweetberry honeysuckle. However, the Yezberry series was developed from purely Japanese strains of haskap, while the Sugar Mountain series is of Russian heritage. Other differences: Yezberry haskaps bloom a bit later, so they're a good choice for areas that get frequent spring frosts. Yezberry fruits are plumper and rounder than Sugar Mountain fruits, but both are equally tasty and heavy-bearing when it comes to harvest time. Lonicera comparison chart
