Do you love the gorgeous pink blossoms that appear on cherry trees in the spring but don’t have room for another tree in your landscape? Plant Yuki Cherry Blossom Deutzia to add stunning two-toned shades of pink flowers in the spring in a compact space. The leaves on this deciduous shrub turn a pretty shade of burgundy in the fall.
This deer-resistant shrub can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 5 to 8 in partial to full sun conditions. Yuki Cherry Blossom Deutzia x 'NCDX2' grown in sunnier locations typically produce more blossoms. The showy flowers attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. This plant won the Landscape Plant of the Year in 2017 and a silver medal from Plantarium in 2016. Plant Yuki Cherry Blossom Deutzia is a compact mounded shrub that grows to only 1 or 2 feet in height and width with arching branches.
Yuki Cherry Blossom Deutzia Care
Pruning is not necessary but cutting back stems every few years will produce a bushier plant. Flower buds are produced on the previous year’s growth, so prune in late spring or early summer after flowering has ended. New growth is produced from the plant’s base. Deutzia and hydrangeas are botanical cousins. The number and arrangement of flower parts are very similar.
Yuki Cherry Blossom Deutzia Spacing
Yuki Cherry Blossom Deutzia can be used to create low hedges, in mass plantings, to cover slopes, in perennial borders, in front of shrub borders and in containers. Space individual plants 1 to 2 feet apart.
