Growing Zones
The Yuki Kabuki™ Deutzia or Deutzia x 'NCDX3' provides several seasons of interest and is incredibly easy to maintain. Tiny flowers feature petals with light pink centers, surrounded by a ring of dark pink and white margins. The flowers bloom in clusters and completely cover the shrub during the spring blooming season. Medium green foliage gives the shrub a subdued appearance during the summer, making this plant an excellent backdrop for other plants that are more showy during the peak of the growing season. The Yuki Kabuki™ Deutzia has one last surprise – the foliage fades into a deep, luxurious burgundy shade by fall.
The mounded growth habit and medium size of the Yuki Kabuki™ Deutzia work make it an ideal shrub to grow in the middle of a mixed bed, along a foundation wall, or as a specimen. Use this shrub to divide different areas of a yard while maintaining sight lines. The spring flowers attract pollinators, but foragers tend to keep away. Grow Yuki Kabuki™ Deutzia in zones 5 through 8.
Yuki Kabuki™ Deutzia Care
Plant Yuki Kabuki™ in part shade to full sun and in rich, moist, well-drained soil with an acidic pH. Deutzias are drought tolerant once established but perform best with consistent moisture, especially during a dry period. Apply a slow-release fertilizer annually each spring.
Deutzia shrubs are naturally compact and rounded, so pruning is unnecessary. Remove dead or damaged growth, but otherwise, there is no need for pruning shears.
Yuki Kabuki™ Deutzia Spacing
The Yuki Kabuki™ Deutzia reaches 30 to 48 inches tall and wide. Space plants 30 to 48 inches apart to create a hedge or continuous row.
