The Zinfin Doll® Hydrangea by Proven Winners ColorChoice® is a large hydrangea with very large two-toned blooms. The enormous panicle flowers start off in early summer as pure white. Then from the bottom up, the blooms start to turn pink for a 2 colored show. As late summer and fall approach, the flowers turn a darker pink. The flowers start to show earlier in the year than a typical hydrangea, and last all the way until late fall!
This paniculata hydrangea shrub blooms on new wood, and is very reliable to grow flowers every year no matter how harsh the winter was. The stems are very strong and hold the large flowers upright all year. It also makes these flowers great for cut flower arrangements, bouquets, and dried flowers. The plant is heat tolerant and can handle over 6 hours of sunlight per day no problem.
Zinfin Doll Hydrangea Care
This hydrangea should be planted in soil that is well drained. It cannot tolerate being in soggy soil for long periods of time, as it will cause the shrub to get root rot. The area should be full sun, with at least 6 hours of sunlight. But in warmer climates it is best to provide afternoon shade. We also recommend adding a layer of mulch around the plant to help retain moisture in dry summer conditions, and add a layer of protection in harsh winter climates.
Pruning Zinfin Doll Hydrangeas should be done in early spring by cutting back ⅓ of the height of the bush. This helps the plant grow stronger stems to hold up the large blooms, as well as encourages rigorous growth of flowers throughout the year. Trim back dead or sick branches throughout the year as needed.
Fertilize in early spring before pruning by applying slow release fertilizer designed for woody plants, such as rose fertilizer. Apply according to directions on the label.
Zinfin Doll Hydrangea Spacing
Plant this large shrub 6 to 8 feet apart, center on center. If you would like to grow a large flowering hedge, space the shrubs 65 to 72 inches apart, center on center. These can be planted in very large garden planters, but it needs to be at least 5 feet wide, and 5 feet tall.
