Feature
Aglaonema pictum Tricolor has fantastic variegation resembling three-color camouflage, which is also what gives it the commonly known name of camouflage plant. The patterning is random and irregular, making each leaf that unfurls unique. Overall this genus of tropical plant is known as Chinese Evergreens and is native to the rainforests and jungles of Asia and New Guinea. Primarily grown for its distinct foliage, this plant is known to flower occasionally.
Best Locations For Growing Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor
Rooms that are naturally more humid such as bathrooms and kitchens are great places to grow this tropical evergreen. Grow Aglaonema as a tabletop plant or on a lower shelf where the tops of the leaves can be fully appreciated, Chinese evergreen is toxic to both pets and people and will need to be placed out of reach of small animals and children.
Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor Sunlight Requirements
The broad leaves of Aglaonema are quickly burned in locations with strong light. Place the plant in an east or west-facing window with indirect or filtered bright light. Medium light levels are also acceptable, although long periods of low light will reduce the intensity of the foliage color.
Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor Care
Aglaonema prefers high humidity to mimic the conditions of its home in the rainforests. Use a daily mist of distilled water or place pots on wet pebble trays, so that the pots are not sitting in water. This slow-growing plant only needs repotting every 2-3 years and prefers to be slightly rootbound at all times. Wiping the large leaves regularly will remove dust, shine up the leaf and remove any spots left behind from watering.
Watering Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor
Chinese Evergreen prefers consistently moist soil and will show signs of stress when under-watered for long periods of time. Water once a week during the periods of active growth in spring and summer, reducing the frequency to once every 10-14 days during the fall and winter.
Feeding Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor
Feed with a diluted liquid houseplant fertilizer once a month during the spring and summer. Stop fertilizing in fall and winter when growth slows and the plant enters a semi-dormant state.
