- Partial Shade to Full Sun (At Least 3 Hours Of Direct Sunlight)
- Mature Height 12 - 15 Inches
- Mature Spread 12 - 15 Inches
- Growing Zones 3 - 8
Feathery white petals radiate from the purple center of each flower on this dependable, low growing perennial with long, gray-green lanceolate leaves. Attaining a height of 12 to 15 inches with a spread of 24 to 30 inches, it will easily fill in any gaps in the perennial bed and flower from June into August.
Low maintenance and easy to care for, it is also deer and rabbit resistant. Tolerates drought once established and will do well in the heat. Would be a beautiful choice for a mass planting, perennial border, patio planting, walkway or pathway, window box and pot or container planting. Winter hardy in zones 3 to 9. Plants in containers or pots would need to be protected in areas where temperatures fall below freezing for extended periods of time and either brought indoors to a cool space or planted in the ground for the winter and repotted in spring. Native to Europe and naturalized in North America.
Amethyst in Snow Bachelors Button Care
Grows best in full sun but will take partial shade. It accepts a wide pH range and is tolerant of poor soils but prefers a moist to dry, well-drained area that is slightly sandy.
Deadhead spent flowers to prevent it from spending energy producing seed. Cut back two-thirds of the plant mid-summer to encourage new growth. May be divided every 2 to 3 years. Remove any plants grown in pots or containers and plant in garden soil for winter and repot in the spring. Alternatively, the pots or containers could be stored indoors for the winter in a cool, but sunny area that is above freezing.
Amethyst in Snow Bachelors Button Spacing
Plants should be spaced approximately 2 to 3 feet apart if grown as a mass planting, perennial border planting, patio planting, walkway or pathway planting or if grown in pots or containers.
