- Easy Care Tropical Plant
- Light Preference/Tolerated (Bright Indirect Light)
- Average Watering Needs, Well-Drained Potting Soil

Dieffenbachia Amy has giant leaves randomly splashed with white and yellow and an edging of deep green. The effect is dramatic and very tropical looking. Dieffenbachia is a forgiving plant that will tolerate neglect or too much attention, making it perfect for the new houseplant owner. All parts of Dieffenbachia Amy, or Dumb Cane as it is commonly known, are poisonous and should be kept away from pets and children.
Best Locations For Growing Amy Dieffenbachia
Dieffenbachia is known to be an air-cleaning plant. Their large leaves filter out toxins from many household furnishings and give off oxygen in return. Amy Dieffenbachia is a compact grower that works perfectly in smaller locations such as an office or an apartment where other plants might struggle with lower light levels.
Amy Dieffenbachia Sunlight Requirements
Amy Dieffenbachia will have brighter color when grown in brighter indirect or filtered sunlight. Lower light levels are tolerable, but the pretty variegation pattern will be less noticeable. Growing Dieffenbachia outside for the summer is a great way to dress up a patio or deck instantly. Light levels need to be semi-shaded with direct sun exposure only in the morning.
Amy Dieffenbachia Care
Dieffenbachia prefers soil that stays moist and drains well. Use potting soil with added organic matter like coconut coir or peat to keep the soil moist. Humidity should also remain high and steady throughout the year. A daily misting with water or using a cool mist humidifier during the driest months in the winter will benefit this tropical plant. Amy Dieffenbachia is relatively slow growing and does not need repotting often. Only increase the pot size by one or two inches when repotting. Dieffenbachia roots do not like to have too much room, and excess damp soil will make the roots susceptible to root rot.
Watering Amy Dieffenbachia
Let the top 1-2 inches of soil dry out in between waterings. Always water long enough for the liquid to run out of the drainage holes. Discard any water in the saucer after 10-15 minutes. The larger plants may require watering more often.
Feeding Amy Dieffenbachia
Fertilizing regularly throughout the year gives the best growth results for Dieffenbachia. Use a diluted liquid houseplant feed with an NPK ratio of 20-20-20. Either dilute the fertilizer to one-quarter of the recommended strength at every watering or fertilize once every month with the manufacturer's recommended amounts.
