Blue Muffin Viburnum is one of those plants you absolutely have to have in your landscape, especially if you want to attract birds, bees and other pollinators! No space for a tree in your garden? This fits the bill of a medium to large shrub. The perfect plant for any space if you will. The botanical name is Viburnum dentatum 'Christom'. It is native to eastern North America and only known to exist in the wild in Missouri.

The Blue Muffin Viburnum has 5 seasons of interest too! From the emergence of the deep green, glossy leaves, the flat topped white flowers that resemble powder puffs, to the gorgeous bright, blue berries and then fabulous fall foliage of burgundy and orange! Of course the 5th season is the upright branching that shows off the structure of the shrub.

Blue Muffin Viburnum Care

It grows 5-7 feet tall and 5-7 feet wide and is hardy from Zone 3a – Zone 8b making it an almost anywhere plant! This shrub prefers full sun but tolerates partial sun as well. It blooms on old wood which means the branches from the year before. The Blue Muffin Viburnum is deer resistant which is an awesome bonus! It displays excellent salt tolerance in coastal areas making it an all-around plant.

Note: In order for the shrub to produce berries, you will need to plant another variety of viburnum dentatum. We offer 3 varieties of viburnum dentatum:

All that Glitters Viburnum

All That Glows Viburnum

Glitters and Glows Viburnum

Blue Muffin Viburnum Spacing

It can be used as focal plant in the garden, in mass or as a hedge when planted on 5 ft. centers.

    Cute little plants!

Posted by Michelle Crowe on Jun 16, 2022

I ordered two Viburnum with the hope that the two together will produce blue berries in the Winter. The plants are much smaller than I expected (probably because I didn't realize the size I ordered), so they will have to grow quite a bit before I see flowers in the Spring and Summer and berries in the Winter. Viburnum are somewhat fast growers so I'm hoping I'll see that next season. They came very quickly and well packaged. I put them in the ground right away and they seem to be doing well. I love that you can order plants online and have them to your door in a few days. This is a great company that I would recommend and use again.
