Blue Wood Sedge Grass thrives in challenging conditions and adds a vibrant touch of color to an area. The Carex flaccosperma has tall, broad leaves in a bluish-green hue. The foliage grows in a rosette formation and gently arches, giving the plant a full, mounded appearance. Subtle greenish-white flowers bloom in the spring, but this leafy plant is primarily grown for its foliage.

Use this sedge grass as a groundcover or introduce color and texture into a mixed bed. This plant needs moist conditions, and it does very well in wetlands or on the bank of a stream or body of water. Blue Wood Sedge Grass is a clump-forming plant that is low-maintenance and deer-resistant. Grow this plant as a perennial in USDA zones 5 through 8.

Blue Wood Sedge Grass Care

This leafy perennial needs full sun to partial shade. Rich, moist soil that promotes drainage is best. This sedge prefers damp conditions and may not need water often when grown in a naturally wet area. Wait until the top few inches of the soil are dry to water.

Sedge is not a heavy feeder, but feeding this plant with a balanced fertilizer will support plenty of growth each spring. Blue Wood Sedge Grass is an evergreen plant in warmer areas, but the foliage will die back in cold climates. Remove damaged growth at any time.

Blue Wood Sedge Grass Spacing

Blue Wood Sedge Grass is an ornamental sedge with an upright growth habit that will reach 6 to 12 inches tall and spread just as wide. This clump-forming plant can be spaced as close as 8 to 10 inches when creating a continuous planting.
