- Height 4 - 5 Feet
- Width 2 Feet
- Growing Zones 4-9
- Pruning Group 2
With vines reaching 4 to 5 feet long and large, deep red blooms, Boulevard Nubia Clematis is an elegant container plant or landscape vine. In a container, provide a short trellis or obelisk and watch the plant wind around and flower like crazy in early summer, and then again in late summer. The plant spreads out about 2 feet with deep green leaves and blooms all around the stems. It is hardy in growing zones 4 through 9.
Butterflies and hummingbirds will love the deep red flowers on this clematis, and gardeners will love cutting the flowers to bring indoors. Outdoors, enjoy the flowers on posts, trellises, or in containers near a patio or window. Of course, you will be able to see the big blooms from nearly any spot. This clematis can make a dramatic curb appeal statement wrapped around the posts of an entryway.
Boulevard® Nubia Clematis Care
This clematis vine needs some sun--at least 4 hours a day--but will do best when its roots get some cooling shade. You can achieve this by picking a spot that receives some morning sun, but shade near the ground on hot afternoons. Or plant some low-growing annual flowers around the base of the clematis in the container or soil. It needs average to rich soil that drains well. Water clematis regularly, especially the first few weeks after planting and in peak heat.
This clematis is in pruning group 2, which means the clematis vine blooms on old and new wood and re-blooms all summer! So prune the stems in late winter or early spring. Cut old stems from the previous year down to their lowest pair of live buds. Remove faded flowers in early summer to encourage a full second bloom. Apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer in spring as the plant buds out.
Boulevard® Nubia Clematis Spacing
Give Boulevard Nubia plenty of room to grow and spread. When planting several along a fence or trellis, space them about 2 feet apart.
