Growing Zones
The Boulevard® Parisienne™ Clematis is a beautiful flowering vine with a compact growth habit, making it a wonderful plant for gardeners who love the look of Clematis but don’t have a lot of space. The vines will reach up to 4 feet long, making this plant well suited to a patio or balcony container. Large flowers have overlapping blue-violet petals with ruffled edges and showy magenta anthers. This repeat bloomer pushes out showy flowers in the early summer and again in fall.
This low-maintenance Clematis is an excellent container plant, but it also looks amazing as part of a border and can be used to climb an arbor or some type of structure. Use a small trellis to give the vines something to latch onto or let the wandering vines find their way. The large flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies, but this plant is not a favorite with deer and rabbits. The Boulevard® Parisienne™ Clematis is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9.
Boulevard® Parisienne™ Clematis Care
The Boulevard® Parisienne™ Clematis thrives in full sun to part shade. Afternoon shade is ideal in hot climates. Soil should be loamy and slightly alkaline or neutral. This plant has average water needs, so water when the top couple of inches of soil is dry.
Trim back all growth to 6 inches in the late winter or early spring. Prune again after the first round of flowers die back to promote more abundant flowers for the second bloom cycle. Apply a low nitrogen fertilizer such as 5-10-10 in the spring to support new growth. Use a balanced plant food, like a 10-10-10 once a month for the rest of the growing season.
Boulevard® Parisienne™ Clematis Spacing
As a compact plant, the Boulevard® Parisienne™ Clematis will grow 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. Space plants about 3 feet apart, and remember that if a trellis or support is not provided, the plant will make do with whatever is nearby. One large container is big enough for one plant.
