Clematis are known for showy flowers, but the Boulevard® Poseidon™ Clematis takes things to a new level. Large, 7-petaled flowers measure 4 to 5 inches wide and bloom from early summer through fall. The lavender flowers have magenta accents along the center of the ruffled petals, providing dimension. Each flower has seven petals with pointed tips and is long-lasting. Mature plants will be engulfed in flowers during the bloom season for a stunning appearance. Green foliage provides additional color and interest. The Clematis uvaria 'Evipo113' has a compact form, making it a good choice for areas with limited space.
This Clematis has a vining form, so it will need a trellis or support for the woody, twining stems to climb. Feature this clematis along a fence or stone wall. The compact form makes the Boulevard® Poseidon™ Clematis suitable for a container on a porch, patio, or balcony. Use it to frame a front door or garage door. The bi-color flowers also bring butterflies and hummingbirds who come to feed on the nectar. Grow the Boulevard® Poseidon Clematis in zones 4 through 9
Boulevard® Poseidon Clematis Care
Plant the Boulevard® Poseidon Clematis in full to part sun. The ideal location will feature a shady spot for the base of the plant but allow the vines to receive full sun. This perennial needs rich, well-drained soil. Container plants and young plants need consistent water, while established plants in the ground only need water during a dry period. Provide about one inch of water per week. Clematises are heavy-feeders and do best when fertilized every two weeks during the growing season. Use a balanced fertilizer.
Apply a thick layer of mulch around the base of the clematis in spring to retain moisture and protect against warm summer temperatures. Reapply mulch in the winter to ward off chilly temperatures. Prune in late winter to remove dead growth and keep the vines in bounds. Trimming the stems back encourages new, full growth each year. The Boulevard® Poseidon™ Clematis blooms on new and old wood.
Boulevard® Poseidon Clematis Spacing
The Boulevard® Poseidon Clematis has a climbing form and reaches 3 to 4 feet tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. Space plants 2 feet apart when creating a continuous planting or plant one plant in a 12-inch container.
