Boulevard® Ravel™ Clematis (Clematis ‘Evipo122’) lights up the garden with rich, velvety purple blooms brushed with rosy undertones. These wide-open flowers appear in late spring on new growth, continuing sporadically into late summer for a long season of color. Reaching a manageable height of 4–5 feet, Ravel™ offers big impact in smaller spaces, whether climbing a trellis or spilling from a container. Its striking petals contrast beautifully against medium-green foliage, creating a memorable focal point that butterflies and hummingbirds find irresistible.
In addition to its captivating display, Boulevard® Ravel™ Clematis is known for its Group 3 pruning classification, which means it blooms reliably on current-season stems. Bred by the renowned Raymond Evison, this variety is exceptionally easy to maintain and thrives in full sun to partial shade, making it versatile for different garden styles. It pairs well with shrub roses or other vertical vines for enhanced visual interest in borders and containers.
Boulevard® Ravel™ Clematis Care
Select a location that receives at least six hours of daily sunlight, though some afternoon shade in hotter areas may prolong blooms. Prepare a site with well-draining, moderately fertile soil, and plant the crown about 2–4 inches below the surface to shield dormant buds. Regular watering helps the deep roots develop properly, and a low-nitrogen, balanced fertilizer in early spring supports robust growth. Cover the root zone with mulch or groundcover to keep it cool and maintain even moisture levels.
Cut back dead or damaged stems any time, and prune fully in late winter or early spring by reducing stems to about a foot above ground level or to healthy buds. This stimulates new shoots, which carry the season’s flowers. Container plants may need slightly more frequent watering and occasional repotting to ensure healthy root development. Keep a simple trellis or support structure ready, as Clematis quickly twines and climbs once new growth appears.
Boulevard® Ravel™ Clematis Spacing
Allow at least 2 to 3 feet between Ravel™ and other plants for adequate airflow and vine expansion. If growing in rows along a fence, space vines similarly to prevent overcrowding. When planting in a container, opt for a pot at least 12 to 14 inches wide, providing enough room for the root system and any companion groundcovers or annuals.
