Once the Boulevard® Zara™ Clematis starts to bloom in the early summer, the flower display continues until the fall. The beautiful blooms measure 5 inches across and have ruffled, overlapping icy blue petals that surround yellow anthers. This Clematis grows about 3 to 5 feet tall, so it is perfectly sized for a container located on a porch, patio, or balcony. The green foliage provides a lush background for the showy flowers.
Plant Clematis in a border or container. This plant is a natural climber, so give it a small trellis or structure to latch on to and grow along. Pollinators, like butterflies and hummingbirds, are attracted to the large flowers. This plant is deer and rabbit resistant for added convenience. The hardy Boulevard® Zara™ Clematis is a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 9.
Boulevard® Zara™ Clematis Care
The Boulevard® Zara™ Clematis thrives in part shade, although the plant can handle full sun. The ideal spot will have morning sun and afternoon shade. Use moderate, slightly alkaline, or neutral soil with good drainage and water when the top several inches of soil dry out. Apply mulch to shade the roots and extend the time between watering.
During late winter or early spring, cut all growth back to 6 inches. Flowers bloom on new growth, so it’s essential to give the plant a fresh start. Use a plant food low in nitrogen, like 5-10-10 in the spring. Follow this up with monthly feedings using a balanced fertilizer, like 10-10-10 throughout the rest of the growing season.
Boulevard® Zara™ Clematis Spacing
Boulevard® Zara™ Clematis will reach 3 to 5 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Space this plant 2 feet apart from other plants. Plant one Clematis in a large container and include a trellis, or place the pot near a structure the vines can climb.
