Bouquet Perfect™ Violetta Primrose (Primula vulgaris ‘Kerbeletta’) brings depth and richness to the early spring garden with exceptionally dark violet-blue flowers. Each bloom is broad and rounded, with color that appears almost inky at the center before softening toward the edges. Plants grow just 5–8 inches tall and 10–12 inches wide, forming a compact mound that resembles a freshly arranged bouquet. Because the flowers are sterile, they hold longer than traditional primroses and keep the display looking fresh for weeks. We especially value this selection for adding saturated color to shaded beds when most perennials are still emerging.
This cool-season perennial thrives in woodland-style settings and sheltered garden spaces. Lightly fragrant flowers draw early pollinators, offering one of the first nectar sources of the year. The foliage stays neat and low, making it easy to integrate along pathways, beneath deciduous shrubs, or in decorative spring containers. In northern climates, it returns reliably with minimal effort when soil moisture is consistent. It is well suited to cottage gardens, shaded courtyards, and areas near water features where soil remains evenly damp.
Bouquet Perfect™ Violetta Primrose Care
Plant in partial shade to full shade, ideally in a location protected from intense afternoon sun. Soil should be rich in organic matter and retain moisture without becoming soggy. Primroses prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil, with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Water regularly during spring growth so the shallow root system does not dry out. In warm climates, plants may go dormant in summer if soil becomes too dry. Incorporate compost at planting time and apply a light, balanced fertilizer in early spring if growth appears weak.
Remove spent flower stems to keep the plant tidy. Division every few years in early fall or early spring helps maintain strong clumps. In colder regions, mulch after the ground freezes to buffer temperature swings and protect crowns from late winter damage.
Bouquet Perfect™ Violetta Primrose Spacing
Space plants 10–12 inches apart in borders or woodland plantings to allow each mound to develop fully. For containers, use a shallow planter at least 12 inches wide filled with moisture-retentive potting mix. Pair with a hardy fern for contrasting texture, bleeding heart for layered spring bloom, or golden Japanese forest grass for color contrast in part shade. Companions should prefer evenly moist soil and filtered light to create a cohesive planting that thrives through spring.
