Cherokee Sedge Grass is an ornamental perennial that provides a nice alternative ground cover, in comparison to typical grass planted in a home. This perennial grass grows upright and tall. It consists of bright green foliage with small, white to tan flowers on the end that provide a nice contrast to the rest of the plant. This ornamental grass will set your landscape apart from others, with this versatile alternative that makes a contrasting addition to borders, and provides a home for wildlife.
This perennial grass is hardy within zones six to nine. Versatile in use and function, this grass can be used as ground cover, as a border in wetlands, in a landscape to offer diversity in aethstetic, or it can even be added to bouquets as filler. Cherokee Sedge Grass makes a proper habitat for amphibians, especially when placed near wetlands and bogs. As an added positive characteristic, it is resistant to deer.
Cherokee Sedge Grass Care
Cherokee Sedge Grass thrives in full sun. It prefers moist, well drained soil but it will do well in wetlands, and bogs provided it’s offered enough light. This plant is somewhat drought tolerant, though if there’s a long stretch of dry weather it would be useful to provide some water. This grass spreads slowly, and would benefit from a sensitive rate fertilization.
This plant can be trimmed back to make room within the landscape anytime during the growing season, if preferred. It spreads slowly, and can grow quite tall if not trimmed.
Cherokee Sedge Grass Spacing
This perennial grass works wonderfully in both landscapes and containers, as it grows tall and provides a nice height contrast. It typically grows to a foot high without blooms, and two feet high with blooming. It should be spaced 18 to 24 inches apart as it spreads naturally.
